The Digital Archiving consultancy is working with the pharmaceuticals industry, IT companies, public sector bodies, academic institutions and others, delivering solutions to the problem of digital preservation and curation.

Recent assignments in the public domain have included:

• The International Council on Archives (ICA) in Paris. A study on development opportunities for the ICA
• The European Commission - Led the e-SciDR study into the situation of e-Science Digital Repositories in Europe, and development of policy options to be pursued to establish a world-leading repository e-Infrastructure in Europe. See www.e-SciDR.eu.
• The National Archives, UK, (formerly the UK Public Record Office) - Providing advice on digital archiving issues. (With Neil Beagrie of Charles Beagrie Ltd.)
• JISC Committee for the Support of Research - An audit of the current status of the curation of e-Science data in the UK and recommendations for its future curation. This study includes consideration of data created and managed using Grid technologies.
• Joint Information Systems Council - Assembling a task force on the future of curation of primary scientific data in the UK and reporting on its findings. http://www.jisc.ac.uk/uploaded_documents/CurationTaskForceFinal1.pdf
• The National Center for Documentation and Research, Abu Dhabi - A full audit of their strategy policies and processes (2006) in preparation for their designation as the National Archives of the United Arab Emirates, followed by operation assistance and advice as they took on this role, including training in records management and archives management. Development of full functional specifications of IT systems to support their professional activities.
• The Digital Preservation Coalition - A survey for the DPC of industry attitudes towards the problems of keeping data over the long-term. This report is available at: http://www.dpconline.org/graphics/reports/
• International Records Management Trust - Work undertaken on electronic records management by Philip Lord for the IRMT on behalf of the East African Co-operation in Tanzania.The IRMT is at http://www.irmt.org/
• British Library - Report on persistent digital identifiers for the British Library’s Digital Object Management System (DOMS) project.
• Medical Research Council: - Advice on the MRC’s digital sharing and preservation initiative, including a report on data sharing in the life sciences in collaboration with the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh for a consortium of research organisations, including the MRC, Wellcome Trust, NERC and the BBSRC, with the DTI and JISC. Advice on the ethical constraints on the use of personal data in medical research.
• Department of Trade and Industry - A roadmap of the UK’s e-Infrastructure for research in the context of the government’s research spending plans 2004-2014. This work was funded by the DTI, JISC and the British Library.

Other assignments include advice to pharmaceuticals companies and suppliers to the pharmaceuticals sector.
